CONCESSION

The concession covers the preparation, construction and operation of the railway infrastructure in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For this purpose, feasibility studies are carried out. On the basis of the results, further details on the investment plan and schedule are then determined.

There is a fixed cooperation and direct involvement of the national railway companies. The project is designed as a PPP and BOT project. According to recommendations of the World Bank, the concession is set for a period of 30 years and can be extended.

The studies and preparatory work for the existing corridors and some new connections should be completed within a maximum of 30 months. Of this, 6 months are allocated to the pre-structuring, 12 months to feasibility studies for the first 3 corridors and 12 months to structuring. The goal is then to start building the first 3 corridors. At the same time, the same work for the new corridors will begin and be carried out.

The construction time for the existing corridor is between 24-36 months and for new corridors up to 5 years.

The concession company is a stock corporation that was created to accommodate large and small international and national investors.

The location Switzerland was selected on the basis of recommendations from international investors and consulting firms. Among other things, legal security, manageable bureaucracy, French-speaking staff, international awareness and state support were particularly important.

Other locations were ruled out due to excessive and slow bureaucracy, lack of legal security, lack of acceptance and hostility to technology, travel restrictions and other factors.

All measures are carried out in accordance with World Bank standards and the highest environmental standards. A concession fee is also paid, which is reviewed every 5 years.
